Col Italia Camp

There is no material gain in climbing a mountain. The thing is useless, like poetry, and dangerous, like love-making. To some people — only a very small percentage of people — mountaineering appears to be as essential and satisfactory as poetry or love-making are to some others.

Other Ranges and Other Articles

Himalaya is a vast and so are the topics associated with it. There are subjects which run across every region. Use of Mobiles as new aspect introduced to remote villages, importance of the Himalayan names, creating and archive of available Himalayan material are some of the subjects covered. Moreover with long association with the Himalayan Journal, details about its history, association with different editors, traditions of the Club are covered. Moreover a bird-eye’s view of the entire range, across all regions makes it a very interesting reference. The Alpine Club, on of the oldest club, celebrates importance of the Indian Himalaya, and the institutions like the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute are essential part of it. We made a joint climb of “The Monch” peak in the Alps with Pakistani mountaineers and our flags were placed jointly on the summit- for the first time perhaps. This was to support the “Siachen Peace Park” during the “U N Year of the Mountains 2002”. (See article) These “other aspects” are as important as the Himalayan valleys itself.
